Managed by the Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Foundation Inc, the KSP Writers' Centre is a vibrant not-for-profit incorporated organisation and registered DGR charity located in the Perth Hills region of Western Australia. The Foundation was formed in 1985 to preserve Katharine's Place at 11 Old York Road and run it as a Centre dedicated to writing development, the promotion of writers and literature, and to preserve the heritage-listed home and legacy of celebrated Australian author Katharine Susannah Prichard (1883-1969).
The Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers' Centre proudly supports Australian writers through our annual residency and fellowship programs. Our 2027 program marks 40 years of fostering a vibrant community of literary talent, with alumni publishing award-winning work across all genres.
Our fellowship program offers unique opportunities for upcoming, emerging, and established writers to immerse themselves in their craft. With the support of the KSP Foundation and the Shire of Mundaring, these fellowships provide a peaceful and inspiring setting to focus on developing a writing project - surrounded by nature, history, and literary peers.

The KSP Writers’ Centre is proud to present its annual open-themed short fiction competition for Australian writers, proudly supported by the Shire of Mundaring.
A longlist of entries will be shared on the KSP social media platforms ahead of the awards ceremony. Final results will be announced at the awards ceremony in December 2026 and published on the KSP website and social media platforms.
Prizes (All prizes are awarded at the discretion of the judge):
- First Prize: $300 cash prize plus a 2-night stay at the KSP Writers’ Centre (The stay is non-transferable and valued at $370)
- Second Prize: $150 and a certificate
- Up to five Commended Certificates
- $12 Entry Fee
Shire of Mundaring Encouragement Award Awarded to a local writer residing in one of the following suburbs: Bailup, Beechina, Bellevue, Boya, Chidlow, Darlington, Glen Forrest, Gorrie, Greenmount, Helena Valley, Hovea, Mahogany Creek, Malmalling, Midvale, Mount Helena, Mundaring, Parkerville, Sawyers Valley, Stoneville, Swan View, The Lakes or Wooroloo. The prize includes a complimentary membership to the KSP Writers’ Centre.

The KSP Writers’ Centre is proud to present the annual Annette Cameron Encouragement Award, an open-themed poetry competition for unpublished Western Australian writers aged 18 and over.
This award was founded by long-time KSP member and talented WA poet Flora Smith, in memory of her cousin Annette Cameron, a life-long friend of Katharine Susannah Prichard. With deep respect and sadness, we acknowledge Flora’s passing in 2023. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Flora’s family for generously continuing sponsorship of this award in her honour.
A longlist of entries will be shared on the KSP social media platforms ahead of the awards ceremony. The shortlist and winning entries will be announced at Katharine's Birthday, our End-of-Year Awards Ceremony in December 2026.
Eligibility
- Open to current Western Australian residents aged 18 and over.
- Entrants must be unpublished — defined as never having published a full collection of poetry, either in print or online (individual poems published in journals, anthologies, or websites are acceptable).
- Previous winners of the Annette Cameron Award are not eligible to enter again.
- The poem entered cannot also be submitted to the KSP Poetry Competition.
- Limit: One entry per person.
